The study of string instruments should include ensemble playing at the earliest possible stage. Much can be gained by playing duets. Each player can learn from the other, and develop an awareness of balance, musical phrasing, intonation and tonal quality. These duets can be used in string classes as a supplement to any standard string method. They are perfect for recitals, school functions, and just for fun and practice. They may be played by two players, or by multiple performers on each part, with or without piano accompaniment. These selections may be performed by two like instruments or any duet combination.
"Volume 4" deals with the first three positions for advanced players. All of the basic bowings as well as the spiccatos and staccatos are presented in interesting duets from the classics.
